The X - ray , optical and radio evolution of the GRB 030329 afterglow and the associated SN 2003 dh

چکیده
Extensive X-ray, optical and radio observations of the bright afterglow of the Gamma Ray Burst GRB 030329 are used to construct the spectral and temporal history of the event. The data are fitted using the standard fireball shock model to provide estimates of the initial energy, ε = 6.8×10 52 ergs sr −1 , the density of the ambient medium, n 0 = 1 cm −3 , the electron and magnetic energy density fractions, ǫ e = 0.24 & ǫ B = 0.0017, the power law index of the relativistic electron spectrum, p = 2.25, and the opening angle of the jet, θ j = 3 degrees. Deviations from the standard model seen in the optical and radio are most likely attributable to the concurrent hypernova SN2003dh. Peaks at 0.23 and 1.7 days in the R-band possibly represent the first complete light curve observed for any supernova. If so, the supernova occurred within a few hours of the GRB.

Se p 20 03 1 The First Direct Supernova / GRB Connection : GRB 030329 / SN 2003 dh
Observations of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows have yielded tantalizing hints that supernovae (SNe) and GRBs are related. The case had been circumstantial, though, relying on irregularities in the light curve or the colors of the afterglow. I will present observations of the optical afterglow of GRB 030329. The early spectra show a power-law continuum, consistent with other GRB afterglows. Af...

We report the discovery of optical and radio afterglow emission from the extremely soft X-ray flash, XRF 020903. Our spectroscopic observations provide the first redshift for an X-ray flash, thereby setting the distance scale for these events. At z = 0.251, XRF 020903 is one of the nearest cosmic explosions ever detected, second only to the recent GRB 030329 and the unusual GRB 980425/SN 1998bw...

متن کاملThe Variable Light Curve of GRB 030329: The Case for Refreshed Shocks
GRB 030329 is unique in many aspects. It has a very low redshift for a GRB, z = 0.1685, and is therefore very bright and easy to monitor, making it the most well studied afterglow to date. It shows a supernova bump in the light curve, with a spectrum very similar to SN 1998bw, thus establishing with much better confidence the connection between GRBs and core collapse SNe. There are also two imp...
